AGGIE

When I need a little breath, and maybe some inspiration, I head up to Mount Agamenticus in York County Maine...I can see the mountain from my inland home from fall until the full spring bloom...and it's only about a 30 minute drive for me to get there.
The top of the mountain offers walking & hiking trails, stunning views on all sides...views of the coastline & the mountain ranges all the way to New Hampshire and little glimpses of lakes and structures around the area and an endless sea of trees....but for me, it's the colors and textures that always capture me...an ever changing feast of leaves, branches, blooms and bugs in various states of decay and birth.
Capturing what I see and feel and sharing it eludes me....and so it keeps me captivated with the challenge of bottling it up for keeps.  And so begins my annual spring art obsession with Aggie.

This time around on the Aggie exploration, I'm giving a go at some small acrylic monotypes because I feel that the textures capture what I felt and observed, and the surprise results that can come from a monotype will keep me from focusing on the abstracts, rather than the details.
The grasses in March are this golden yellow color that I can't get enough of, it's the first peak of color after a long winter of looking at white landscapes and dirty salty road sides...and being stuck more often indoors and away from active nature.
I'm not sure how long this venture into printmaking will last me, but right now, it's keeping me gainfully engaged after a long winter.
If I complete a full series, I will put a gallery up on this website, or show them locally, otherwise... find me on Facebook and Instagram and say hi!  and also watch for updates...I must warn you, I have seasonal art ADHD, so your guess is good as mine as to what I will be working on on any given month.

    NOTES & SKETCHBOOK

    Excerpts from:
Ask Me About My Art  / 2020

Where does your inspiration come from?

"Everywhere! That's a bit of a tough question because inspiration is fluid and constantly evolving and it changes minute to minute, hour by hour.  I could be passionate about circles one day and trip over a rock and obsess about the color of that particular rock for a decade.  It's a constant surprise for me, that's what makes life, and art... interesting and beautiful."

    What is your creative process?
"Well, that might be an entire separate book! I guess the simple answer is that I dump the things that clutter my brain into art so I can make room to upload all the new things."

What medium do you primarily work in?
"Depends on the subject, the colors I am drawn to that day, the subject I'm looking at and whatever it is that is inspiring me at that moment...I use whatever tool necessary to best convey the story, image, or message.  I do seem to have a comfort level with acrylic on canvas, written word or digital photography, I frequently lean on and return to those tools after trying a few other things."
