"The beauty of art is that you don't always know exactly where you are going. I do know that right now, I am studying this small group of deer that live in and around my neighborhood, and I am creating art around their story and lives while studying the impact that humans have on their home and environments. How do I create a simple, viewable image that tells a more complex story? Simplifying can be quite complicated.
I plan on using multiple platforms and mediums to express my reactions to what I'm observing while challenging and skills myself within each medium and letting the series grow as it needs to. I envision the finished works moving the observer and challenging them to better understand themselves through a peaceful creature that lives side by side with us that is both misunderstood as well as underestimated. I don't feel dissimilar to the mama deer, in fact, on some days, I think I have much more in common with her than other humans."
