IMAGE AND DESIGN INSPIRATION My favorite image of the day was the quick shot over the edge of the fencing, I was more mesmerized by the sound of the water hitting the edge of the rocks than I was of the image... until I returned home and opened up the raw photos to find these beaming deep blues and the movement I was able to capture. I was inspired to create a new fabric pattern out of the colors from the image as well. Several products featuring the pattern created from FLEETING are available on erinthomas.art and redbubble

HAMILTON HOUSE - SOUTH BERWICK

After a few days of fog, another snow storm and too many short cold days spent mostly indoors, I was ready for some color and more outdoor time. This week, the day after yet another snow storm... the sky is beaming bright blue and the temperature is moderate, the dog needed exercise as much as I did, so we set out for a hike in the woods to find some inspiration for a new fabric pattern....
and some new color combinations to play with. My goal of locating exciting things within the woods wasn't difficult, the dog said we just need to follow the animal tracks to locate the most interesting things! The colors that were available were easy to find against the stark white backdrop. |
I kept the final designs simple by edited down to just the leaf patterns
I am finding the bright colors and patterns very soothing during the long winter months!
I uploaded the final design to erinthomasart on redbubble to give it a test run, if you'd like to check it out click the pillow image above or visit my site CLICK HERE or click the images below for each product
This month, I completed a painting to be given as a gift to the Director at the Monarch School in Rochester New Hampshire as a thank you gift for her hard work.
The Monarch School recently completed a new building on Monarch Way, off Eastern Avenue, and what a beautiful place it is! This school supports individuals with special needs so they can realize their greatest potential. The staff is truly amazing at what they do, and the best part of this experience was to see how much the staff love the school, their Director and especially their students!
There was such positive energy surrounding everything Monarch, it was contagious and wonderful and I wish the rest of the world was just a little bit more Monarch. :)

The Journey
She traveled a mile
or ten-thousand score.
She leads, even in frailty, deference,
to ever much more.
Hurt and forgathered,
From the perils of men.
Came in strength, in droves,
And still sang for when.
or ten-thousand score.
She leads, even in frailty, deference,
to ever much more.
Hurt and forgathered,
From the perils of men.
Came in strength, in droves,
And still sang for when.
She traveled a mile,
Maybe fifty-thousand more.
She wed in tender,
Wit, clandestine in store.
Crimed and damaged,
No justice, nor decree,
From the bowels of fellow.
And still sang defiantly.
She traveled the universe
From one lonely post.
Graceful and poised
Durable and host.
She traveled an inch,
Maybe billions on end.
For a thankless elevation
Since herself no end.
For Her
Fear...Because She knows
The Community hasn't been set for Her
The Unity has instead a deterrent
Common...no extraordinary talent
The Prayers aren't for her soul, by way
The Sacrifice at her sisters toll, their stay
The City designed to eat Her alive
Rewards are not for the unpaid, instead
Stewards of life and inside they stayed, and wed.
To Thee, Thyself and Thy...When, Where and Why
Seer...Because She knows to Cry
The Soon-With-He hasn't been aligned
The Punitive has instead been inflicted
Uncommon...extraordinarily valiant
The Prayers stood direct, in Her way
The Sacrificial pardonous troll must pay
The Church designed to eat Her alive
Accolades are not for the unpaid, unwed
Agents of Commonality and gamers play dead.
To Me, Myself and I...Now, Here and Shy
Greener...Because She grows

FIELD NOTES: Photographs, drawings and studies from a foggy morning on Mount Agamenticus
From a birds eye view, this glove was rude, from mine, it pointed me in the right direction
the vast views of the of the valleys below were obscured by thick fog, looked like the edge of the universe from a ledge, which was surprisingly inviting...although the part of me that has read too much Stephen King wanted to stay further back
My sketchbook is full of dried grasses with long stems that spent a year trying to get closer to the sun only to die off in the cold last fall
The fog, at first appearance, was a sea of white and gray. Further attention to it brought out subdued tones that danced between vivids and washed...NOTE: next time I will bring my watercolors and let the rain drops contribute to my sketchbook, it's clear they are more talented than I am
Macro inspirations as a point of departure
NOTES FROM FIELD STUDIES:
I have set out to continue working on my BATTLEFIELD series.
I usually kick off the art season in the spring with explorations in tiny treasures and macro photography as a point of departure and work my way up to larger and more activated considerations, and it seems this year will be no different.
I found this soggy little chestnut, worn from a winter coated in snow and brought it home with me to study it, draw from it, and photograph it....another soldier on the battlefield.

The earthen tones were cool and jaded and the textures of wet decay were thoughtful.
I completed studies in oil pastel and in pencil

The resulting designs and sketches that came from this soggy seed
were more about movement and infinity
were more about movement and infinity
and a little side thought about placement and it's meaning
the blue dot changes....everything.
